MOTS-C
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within the 12S rRNA (MT-RNR1) region of mitochondrial DNA. It has been studied as an activator of AMPK and for its role in glucose handling, insulin sensitivity and exercise-linked metabolism. Supplied as a ready-to-use multi-dose injector pen containing 32 mg, for research and laboratory use only.
Most peptides studied in this field are encoded by nuclear DNA. MOTS-c belongs to a small group encoded within the mitochondrial genome itself, which is why the literature treats mitochondrial-derived peptides as a distinct class.
